26 Nov Congressional Dems say women in ICE custody who blew whistle on gynecologist should be able to apply for special visas
A large group of 100 Congressional Democrats ordered ICE to release several female detainees. These women have alleged that they received subpar medical treatment while at the Irwin County Detention Center. Currently, there has been an ongoing investigation, according to an immigration lawyer in Los Angeles, about the medical care that Mahendra Amin provided.
Charges Of Nonconsensual And Medically Unnecessary Procedures
Amin is a gynecological physician that operated out of the Irwin County Detention Center. Multiple illegal immigrants who were sent to the detention center have revealed that Amin performed medically unnecessary procedures without their consent on their bodies. Since these women are witnesses in an ongoing investigation, federal law offices of immigration Los Angeles have demanded that they be kept within the country.
Many believe that these women should be capable of applying for U-Visas. This type of visa permits an immigrant to stay within the country if they assist law enforcement. However, ICE has allegedly been trying to deport these women before they’re able to fully cooperate with federal investigators.
Amin’s lawyer, Scott Grubman, has released multiple statements regarding his client. All of them are geared towards Amin being completely innocent of all the allegations brought up against him. However, it’s up to the hands of federal investigators to determine whether or not Amin is at fault.
A Formal Response From ICE
ICE officials have publicly addressed the situation. Their spokeswoman, Danielle Bennett, has stated that they’re fully cooperating with the federal investigation against Amin. She also has stated that they’re informing investigators of any deportation or transfers of Amin’s patients.
Legal immigration help Los Angeles has helped undocumented immigrants gain access to temporary legal residency. The U-Visa program was constructed back in 2000 as a way for law enforcement officials to cooperate with witnesses and victims of heinous crimes. Any immigration lawyer in Los Angeles will reveal that a U-Visa is a basic form of protection that the Federal Government can provide for detainees willing to work with them.
Many people across the country have weighed in on the subject of Amin’s allegations. It’s a common belief that, by opening the door to U-Visas for these women, potentially more wronged women will step forward to be heard. It’s not uncommon for immigrants to keep quiet about situations like this as they’re afraid of what may happen to them or their family members.
Further Requests By Congressional Democrats
Congressional Democrats have also asked the federal investigators to create a transparent process for women at the Irwin Detention Center to identify themselves as witnesses. They believe that by creating a clear process for reporting unethical treatment, more credible women will speak up. As of right now, there has been no such process established for allowing those who received or witnessed medical abuse to share their experience.
This whole story broke because an American employee of the facility filed a whistleblower report in September. Legal immigration help Los Angeles can tell you that it’s not a far stretch to think that this has been going on for longer than this one employee has reported. Our law offices of immigration Los Angeles has noted that board-certified obstetricians have revealed that some of Irwin’s patients received incorrect diagnoses and underwent surgery they didn’t consent to.
