Why would a green card application be denied?

A green card application may be denied by the U.S. government for many reasons, including mistakes on the required forms, missing documents, insufficient financial resources, failure to demonstrate eligibility, and more. If your green card application has been denied, it is best to consult with an immigration lawyer.

What is a green card?

A “green card” provides proof of lawful permanent resident status that allows one to live and work anywhere in the United States, which is issued by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). Depending on your circumstances, most green cards must be renewed every 10 years but green cards based on marriage or investment must be replaced after the first 2 years.

What is the USCIS?

The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) is an agency of the Department of Homeland Security that oversees legal immigration and naturalization system.

How long does it take to get a green card?

The timeline for obtaining a green card varies, as there are many different types of routes one can take. The processing times can take months or even years. It is best to consult with an immigration lawyer to explain your situation so we can give you a better estimate.

Do I need to hire a lawyer to get a green card?

You are not required to hire a lawyer to obtain a green card; however, it is in the best interest for your case to do so. The laws around lawful permanent residence are full of exceptions and are unpredictable–the forms and documents required can be extremely overwhelming, government delays or mixups are inevitable, and mistakes by the applicant can have serious consequences.

What is a K-1 visa?

The K-1 fiancé visa is available to fiancés of U.S. citizens who are living outside of the United States and plan to get married within 90 days of arriving in the United States.
